Saying “Christ” Doesn’t Always Mean The Son of God

Not everyone means the same thing when they say, “Christ.”

Demons can say truth about God –

Paul was followed by a demon possessed slave girl who cried, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” Paul commanded the demon to come out of her; “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” (Acts 16:16-18)

Just because a person is quoting scripture doesn’t mean that person has the spirit of Christ in their hearts.

The serpent misused the Word of God when he tempted Jesus in the wilderness. Jesus used the scriptures correctly when he rebuked the devil and commanded him to leave. (Matthew 4:1-11)

Quoting scripture while walking in darkness opens a person up to the influence of demons of darkness. I John 1:6, “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not practice the truth.”

Obedience to Christ’s Teachings assure Witness of Holy Spirit to Truth –

Walking in obedience to the teachings of Christ assures us of His Holy Spirit abiding in our human spirits. I John 4:13, “Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit.”

Learn to listen to the tone and spirit of the words –

We have to listen to the spirit behind the words of people when they are speaking. “His speech was smooth as butter, yet war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.” (Psalm 55:21)

Test all things heard and felt against the Word of God –

We have to test the spirit behind the words against the Word of God and against our own personal experience of the Holy Ghost dwelling in us. I John 4:1-3, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.  By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.”

Jehovah Witnesses believe that Jesus Christ was a perfect man, and that He is a person distinct from God the Father. However, they also teach that before His earthly life, Jesus was a spirit creature, Michael the archangel, who was created by God and became the Messiah at His baptism. According to Jehovah’s Witnesses, Jesus is a mighty one, although not almighty as Jehovah God is. According to John 1:1 in their Bible, The New World Translation, Christ is “a god,” but not “the God.” They teach that Jesus “was and is and always will be beneath Jehovah” and that “Christ and God are not coequal”.

Mormon leaders have taught that Jesus’ incarnation was the result of a physical relationship between God the Father and Mary. Mormons believe Jesus is a god, but that any human can also become a god. Mormonism teaches that salvation can be earned by a combination of faith and good works.

In Mormonism, Jesus is a creation, the product of relations between god and his goddess wife who used to be people from another world. Jesus is the literal spirit brother of the devil and of you and I.  Also, in Mormon theology, God has a body of flesh and bones, as does his wife, and together they produce spirit offspring in heaven who inhabit human bodies on earth.

New Age believers do not all mean the same Christ as Christians. Christians see the one and only begotten Son of God, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Many New Age writers, on the other hand, refer to a ‘Christ spirit’. They believe there have been many Christs, Jesus being only one of many.

New Age prophetess, Alice Bailey, and author of many occult books, including The Reappearance of The Christ, describes the “Avatar of Synthesis,” who she says is a “close Associate” of “the Christ.” She says: “He works under the great natural Law of Synthesis, producing at-one-ment, unification and fusion. His function (in unison with the energy of Christ) is to generate spiritual will in humanity, the will-to good.”

The New Ager understands Christ as a reincarnated avatar, Messiah, or messenger sent from the ‘hierarchy’ to give the living on earth spiritually advanced revelation. The New Ager accepts that Buddha, Mohammed, Confucius, Jesus, and many others were ‘Christ’.

New Agers see “God” as impersonal, cosmic; a God of energy forces. All things, including man, constitute the ‘ONE’ – called Universal Mind, The Source, Universal Self, Cosmic Consciousness, Universal Presence, or The Force” – your Inner Voice, Higher Self, or Intuition. God is an impersonal energy; force, immanent in all things including man. God can be referred to as either she or he, mother or father, god or goddess. New Agers do not mean God or Jesus Christ of the Bible. Most New Age teachers hold that Mother Earth, the sun, the moon, and the stars, indeed all of Nature, can be worshiped as God. Jesus Christ, if He existed at all, was a mere man. He may have been an interesting teacher, but when he died, he stayed dead like any other man.

Many non-Christians see the historical Jesus as only one of several manifestations of Christ; on equal ground as Abraham, Moses, Krishna, Zoroastrian, Buddha, or Mohammed.

Humanism contends that instead of the gods creating the cosmos, the cosmos, in the individualized form of human beings giving rein to their imagination, created the gods.”

Atheism leads most Secular Humanists to adopt ‘ethical relativism – the belief that no absolute moral code exists, and therefore man must adjust his ethical standards in each situation according to his own judgment. If God does not exist, then He cannot establish an absolute moral code. Human beings may, and do, make up their own rules. Morality is not discovered; it is made.

The Muslims’ Qur’an speaks highly of Christ and presents miraculous aspects of His life as already mentioned. It also categorically denies two of the central teachings of the New Testament–His deity and His crucifixion–and radically misinterprets what they mean. They believe that Jehovah had sexual relations with Mary to birth Jesus Christ as His son.

Anyone who does not confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God manifested in the flesh is a deceiver and a false prophet –

II John verses 7-11, “For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.”

Demons believe in One God in Christ –

The Occult and demons believe in one God and tremble with fear at His Name!  James 2:19, “You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.”

Paul’s Gospel –

I Corinthians 15:1-11, “Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.”

Another Gospel –

The Scriptures plainly teaches us what the true Gospel is and repeatedly warns us against those who twist the Scriptures to teach another gospel and another Christ. Paul had to deal with this at Galatia.

“Paul, an apostle not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead and all the brothers who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.” (Galations 1:1-9)

Witnessing takes wisdom –

If you try to witness to one who believes in another Jesus, you will soon find that they are so brainwashed with their false teachings that it is like you are talking to the walls of a room, and your words just bounce back to your own ears.

Proverbs 26:12, “Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit” There is more hope of a fool than of him.”

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who is wise wins souls.” (Proverbs 11:30)

Pray that God removes the demonic blindness –

Paul said that those who do not believe are blinded by the devil. “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.” (II Corinthians 4:4)

Pray that their spiritual eyes are opened to God’s Light –

He also said we had to pray that God would open the eyes of their understanding to enable them to see the truth of the Scriptures. “I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called–his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.” (Ephesians 1:18)

Pray that their Heavenly Father forgives them and draws them to Christ –

Jesus said, “For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up.” (John 6:44)
