Two Natures of Man-Part One

It’s in our nature to sin-

Many struggle living for God due to not understanding the battle which is being waged between their two natures. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde lives in all human beings to one extent or another. The Cherokee have a proverb about two wolves with the moral being; we need to feed the wolf we wish to win. Too many are busy feeding the wrong wolf in today’s society.

Both believers in Christ and unbelievers are comprised of three parts; body, soul and spirit. Man is a soul with a spirit-body dwelling in a body of flesh.

Spirit created to rule-

The spirit, in Adam before his sin, was created by God to rule his soul, and then his body.

Think about it for a moment.

  • Adam named every animal as God brought them to him.
  • Adam never knew sweat until he sinned.
  • Adam never knew what weeds and thorns were until he was cast out of the garden.
  • Adam never worried about wild animals eating him.
  • Adam never knew hunger or thirst or weariness.
  • Adam was never too hot or too cold.
  • Adam and Eve didn’t need clothes.
  • Adam never knew sickness or pain.
  • Adam never saw anything die in the garden.
  • Adam never saw any animals fighting each other in the garden.
  • Adam knew the names of every plant, and every insect. Some scholars believe he named the constellations. We know that God has named each star per Psalm 147:4.

Supernatural Adam-

The brain power of Adam must have been huge compared to mankind outside the garden. His sense of smell, his eyesight, his hearing, his sense of touch all were in perfect created condition before sin.

The last chapters of the Book of Revelation detail life with Christ after He cleanses the earth from the devil and evil people. It sounds just like the Garden of Eden, which sounds just like the New Jerusalem coming down from God on the New Earth. God will restore all things, giving those who believe in Him and look for His return, glorified bodies like His, to enable us to live without fear or pain or sorrow or death for all eternity.

In reality Adam was already god-like. Isn’t that how God made him?

Divine Order for Adam and Mankind-

  1. Spirit to rule Adam’s spirit
  2. Adam’s spirit empowered with God’s to rule the soul
  3. Adam’s soul to rule body
  4. Adam’s body to submit to the soul ruled by the spirit

A Living-Soul-

His spirit ruled his soul and his soul ruled his body. He was a Living-Soul in a body while he was inside the garden walking with God in the cool of the evening.

His spirit desired to fellowship with his Maker.

Everything inside the garden was done to worship God without any opposition from the body or from the soul, because they were in submission to the spirit which was alive in God’s Holy Spirit.

The One Nature of Adam-

Adam was not divided into two natures.

He had one nature infused with God’s Nature desiring only to worship and to fellowship with God.

Dress and Guard the Garden of Eden-

Besides dressing the garden, Adam had one other charge which was to guard it. He was to protect the garden, Eve and himself from all that would defile. Somehow, Eve got away from Adam’s protection.

Eve is the first to be deceived-

Eve saw a beautiful serpent. As she gave attention to its beauty, she was mesmerized, and soon heard the serpent speak words that soothed and enticed.

Eve yielding to temptation creates chaos in God’s Garden of Eden.
