Seven Cherokee Proverbs

My mom was 50% Cherokee and 50% Irish. I visited Cherokee, North Carolina several years ago. I could feel the spirit world easily, even in their modern village replicas.

Mom was very attuned to the spirit world throughout her life and shared many stories about ghosts. After she became a Christian, she spent a lot of time praying for her children and grandchildren. I believe many of the blessings I and the family enjoy today are a result of her many prayers.

Here are 7 Cherokee Proverbs in honor of the Cherokee in my family tree.

  • Always remember that a smile is something sacred to be shared.
  • Don’t let yesterday use up too much of today.
  • Have a vision not clouded with fear.
  • Listen with your heart. Learn from your experiences, and always be open to new ones.
  • Pay attention to whispers, so we won’t have to listen to the screams.
  • The Soul would have no Rainbow if the eyes had no tears.
  • When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice.
